RAPSODY: We are all Jedi over here at IWWMG/Jamla and 9th is our Jedi Master

In December, you released the „Return of the BGirl“ (which has one of the best covers ever, in my opinion), what are the reactions so far? How do you feel about this album? and Why the title?

9th came up with the title, and I loved it.  Females emcees, prior to the rise of Nicki Minaj, presence in the industry as been slim next to none.  So, the title was fitting.  Its the return of the b-girl, emcees who happen to be female who can hang with the fellas.  Emcees who rely on skill vs gimmicks.  Trying to fill a void in the music that Lauryn, Lyte, Latifah, Lady Bug, and the likes left.

I was excited about the project while we worked on it.  We were making songs!  And, for my first official project I thought it was a very good start.  I have been studying, and practicing a lot; trying to grow.  And, I finally reached a good point.  I found my lane.  So, Im very happy with the project.

The reaction has been overwhelming.  I hoped it would do good and that the people would like the music.  But, I never expected 5,000 downloads in the day of release and over 10,000 downloads to date and counting.  I lot of listeners have sent good words about the project and via twitter I see them passing it forward and it makes me feel good.  To work so hard, for so long, as receive with this appreciation for the music.

Because of the cover and because I even noticed some lightsabers in few of your videos, I got to ask – are you a Star Wars fan?

YES!!! I am a Star Wars fan.  We are all Jedi over here at IWWMG/Jamla and 9th is our Jedi Master.  Return of the Jedi is my favorite movie.  I remember watching that a million times as a child.

As you said in “Make It After All”, many people might not know that it’s actually you who’s rapping in the Dream Merchant 2 interludes. How did you get in touch with 9th Wonder?

I was signed to IWWMG/Jamla when those interludes and the Dream Merchant were made.  9th called me up one day and told me to meet him at the studio.  When I got there he said he was going to flip some of the Little Brother instrumentals from The Listening and that I was going to rap on them as interludes.  It was also a marketing tactic to introduce me to the world.

In a lot of videos IWWMG seems like a „family“ or at least a very close group of people, how is working with them?

We are FAMILY!!! These are my brothers and sisters.  We look out for each other, do for each other, push each other, etc.!  Its great being a part of this team and working with this family.  We all have different personalities, but our common thread is hip hop.  And, we all have a mutual love and respect for each other.  We’re fans of each others music.  We joke, and work…and heat the grill and cook chicken…and watch Star Wars. LOL.

You are also a member of the group Kooley High – could you tell us something about it?

Kooley High is my other family.  We’ve been rolling together as a group for 4 years now.  We come from the Littler Brother tree.  We are heavily influenced by that sound, that movement, and we are all from NC.  So, its the same thing.  A lot of joking and making good music.

All of your solo albums are free downloads – are you planning to release an actual CD? If yes, when?

Yes, the album is titled “The Rap World” and we are looking for a late 2011 release.

What would Rapsody be if she didn’t rap? Can you even imagine not rapping and doing something else?

No, its hard to imagine me not doing music.  I can see myself with any job, but I wouldnt be happy doing it.  Music is my dream job.  But, if I couldnt for some reason, I would be into creative marketing, advertising…coming up with dope ideas for commercials, etc. lol.  Or, even a teacher.

You have a lot of great MCs on the „Return of the BGirl“. If you could have any rapper you want on your next album – who would that be and why?

If I could only chose one, and I could work with ANYBODY, it’d be JAY-Z!

You mentioned Nicki Minaj in „The Intro“, how do you feel about her?

I think she is very talented.  She can rap.  And, Im glad she is experiencing success.  Her rise in the mainstream sparked the conversation about female emcees presence in hip hop.  It help kick start the return of bgirls.

Since Cream.cz is from the Czech republic, would you like to visit Europe and do a couple of shows here? (or are there already any European shows planned?

Yes, I would love to visit Europe and cant wait until I do.  Every hip hop head says overseas are the best shows!  You all really have a love and appreciate for the culture!  I dont have anything lined up as of now, but Im excited about visiting in the future.

What can we expect from Rapsody in 2011? Are you planning to buy a Maybach?)
Would you like to say something to your Czech fans…?

No, I dont plan on buying a Mayback this year.  lol.  Im still broke.  But, I do plan to release another mixtape in February, THANK HER NOW, and the album, THE RAP WORLD later in the year.

To the Czech fans, I want to say PEACE AND LOVE and thank you for reading, for listening and supporting!! Whether its me, Actual Proof, Little Brother or Drake…thank you for supporting hip hop and I cant wait to come rock with you al1.
